Hundreds of young volunteers have carried out a week-long cleaning campaign on the banks of the Buriganga River in Old Dhaka. Several tons of plastic and other waste were removed during the operation.
The organizers said that the aim of this initiative is not only to clean, but also to create awareness among the residents and shopkeepers along the river. For this, they went door to door and distributed leaflets.
Environmentalists say that along with regular initiatives such waste management needs a permanent plan.
